Don't take our word for it — the two biggest claims are ones you can check in a minute.
Turn on Airplane Mode. Then record an interview and watch it transcribe. It works with no connection at all, because the transcription model lives on your phone. If nothing can reach the internet and it still works, nothing was uploaded to do it.
Read iOS's own log. Settings → Privacy & Security → App Privacy Report shows every domain an app contacts. Voxhops shows nothing in normal use — and only huggingface.co if you download the optional model, Apple if you turn on place-names, or our feedback server (hosted on railway.app) if you send feedback through the in-app form. That's iOS telling you, not us.
Or watch the network. Point a proxy or a tool like Little Snitch at the app. We'd rather you check than trust us.

We collect nothing about your recordings, and we have no server that stores them. We receive no audio, no transcripts, and no speaker labels. The only information that ever reaches us is what you deliberately choose to send, described in the two narrow exceptions below.
One exception is worth stating plainly: if you have turned on iOS's "Share With App Developers" setting, Apple may send us anonymized, aggregated crash and usage statistics about the app — never your recordings or transcripts. You can turn that off in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
The second exception is the in-app Feedback form. If you choose to send feedback, your message goes to a small server we run (hosted on Railway, a cloud platform — see "When Voxhops involves a third party"), together with your app version and device type (for example, iPhone model and iOS version) so we can debug what you describe. Including your email is optional — leave it blank and your feedback is anonymous. We use what you send only to read and act on your feedback; it never includes your recordings or transcripts.
Everything the app produces stays on your device: the audio you record and the transcripts made from it (including the who-said-what speaker attribution inside each transcript); titles, dates, durations, flags, and the display names you type for speakers; and a small on-device corrections log (sealed and encrypted) so the app can apply edits you make.
To be precise about what "encrypted" covers: your audio, transcripts (with their speaker attribution), and the corrections log are additionally encrypted at rest by Voxhops, on top of iOS's own device encryption. Recording titles, dates, durations, flag timestamps, the display names you type for speakers, a low-resolution loudness outline used to draw each recording's waveform, and detected-language tags are ordinary app data — they never leave your device, and they are protected by iOS device encryption like the rest of your phone, but Voxhops does not add its own encryption layer to them, and they are included in your iPhone backup as ordinary app data. If a recording title or a typed speaker name would identify a source, treat it with the same care as the source's name anywhere else on your phone.
Recording, transcription, and speaker labeling all happen locally on your iPhone. The standard model ships inside the app, so transcription works with no network connection. Your audio is not sent to a cloud service and is not used to train any model. Optional Face ID can lock the app; that check happens on your device and we never see it. While an interview is being processed, the app briefly writes a working copy to a scratch area that is excluded from backups and shredded as soon as processing finishes.
Your saved recordings and transcripts are included in your normal iPhone backup (for example iCloud or a computer backup) in their Voxhops-encrypted form, alongside the app's ordinary data (titles, dates, durations, flags, and typed speaker names — see "What data we collect"). If you set a recovery passphrase in Settings, that passphrase is what lets you unlock your archive on a new phone; without one, recordings and transcripts restored to a different phone cannot be unlocked, because their keys live only in this phone's secure hardware. That backup is governed by Apple and is under your control in iOS Settings; it is not something we can see or access. If you don't want your recordings in iCloud, you can manage or turn off iCloud backup in iOS Settings.
Voxhops uses the microphone only to record interviews you explicitly start. Audio is processed locally and never transmitted to us.
If — and only if — you turn it on in Settings, Voxhops requests your location once, at the moment you record, solely to add a place name to that recording's title. To turn the coordinate into a place name, the app sends it to Apple's geocoding service (a coarse location, and only when you've enabled this); Apple's handling is governed by Apple's privacy policy. Your location is not stored separately, not transmitted to us, and not shared. The feature is off by default.

These third parties are bound by their own privacy policies, which provide protection for the information they handle. Aside from these interactions, Voxhops does not send your recordings, transcripts, or any personal data over the network.
Because your content lives on your device, you control it: delete any interview inside the app to remove it from this device; delete the Voxhops app to remove what it stored on this device. A copy may remain in your iPhone backup until that backup updates or is removed (see "Your iPhone backup"). We hold none of your content, so there is nothing on our side to retain or delete.
Voxhops is a professional tool intended for adults (18+) and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect any data from children — and, in fact, collect no content from anyone.
Other than the optional Feedback you choose to send us (described above), Voxhops collects and processes no personal data on a server, sells no data, and shares no data with advertisers or data brokers. Aside from feedback you submit, we hold nothing about you — so there is nothing for us to access, port, correct, or delete on our side, and you retain full, direct control of your data on your own device. The only data about you we could ever receive is the anonymized, aggregated crash/usage statistics described above (which you control at the iOS level) and whatever you deliberately send through the in-app Feedback form (which is optional, and anonymous unless you add your email). Where the optional model download or the place-name lookup apply, those interactions are governed by Hugging Face's and Apple's policies respectively. You also always have the right to contact your local data-protection authority.
Voxhops is a recording tool; how you use it is your responsibility. Recording laws differ by place. U.S. federal law generally allows recording with one party's consent, but about a dozen states — including California, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Washington — require the consent of everyone being recorded, and the rules can differ for in-person versus phone conversations. When people in different states are on the same call, the strictest applicable law may apply, and many countries are stricter still. You are solely responsible for obtaining any required consent and for complying with all recording, wiretapping, and privacy laws that apply to you. We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the effective date above. If we ever make a material change to how data is handled — for example, if a future version were to collect anything — we will provide prominent notice in the app before that change takes effect.
This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
